#47: How the fitness industry has lied about realistic weight and body fat goals with Fallon and Kori

Uncategorized May 02, 2021

It was so great to have Kori and Fallon on the podcast. They are both such beautiful and inspiring women who also preach the same message!!

A few weeks ago the three of us sat down and discussed the unrealistic expectations the fitness/diet industry sets around weight and body fat for women.

We talk about:

Restrictive dieting and why it always leads to binge eating

Our experiences with disordered eating and dieting, as well as what led each of us to pro-metabolic eating

The unrealistic expectations some women set for themselves when it comes to body fat levels and weight goals

What are realistic and healthy body fat levels for a woman

The importance of having a support system throughout the healing process

How you can achieve healthy and sustainable fat loss

Why you should focus on taking imperfect action rather than trying to be perfect on your journey

And more!

#46: The effect fasting has on female hormones and the metabolism with Keith Littlewood

Uncategorized Apr 30, 2021

If you've followed me for a while you'll know I did every protocol of fasting for 12 months and I felt great in the beginning (because I was running off stress hormones) but after a while I developed painful and irregular periods, my sleep suffered, I was tired and my hair was falling out.

I know so many other women who have gone down the same path so I thought I would catch up with friend Tommo Littlewood and talk about all things fasting when it comes to female hormones and the metabolism. In this episode we discuss:

Reasons why you feel good when you start fasting

What happens to the body with chronic restriction and fasting long term

How fasting affects your metabolism

What happens with progesterone and other hormones during fasting

Why you gain weight after restricting for so long and what it might mean for your body and health

Is there any time when fasting is appropriate?

And more!

#45: Learning how to say NO with Carol Nedov

Uncategorized Apr 21, 2021

Do you find it hard to say no to a simple request?

One of the biggest things I see in our Winatlife program is women's inability to say NO. Women are conditioned from birth to say yes to please others. If this is something you struggle with you are not alone. Many women feel they can't put their energy, time and bodies first. When you say yes to things you don’t have time to do, what you don’t see is all the things you are saying no too.

In this episode I sit down with Carol Nedov, client and psychotherapist and we discuss why women have such a hard time saying no to things they don't want to do. Why it's so important to learn how to say no confidently and no feel guilty about it. Carol also talks about her upbringing and how it impacted her ability to say no and how you can start prioritizing yourself and start saying no with confidence.

Happy listening I hope you find this podcast helpful and don't forget to take a screenshot of the episode and share it on...

#44: Beating endometriosis symptoms, chronic thrush and losing body fat with Lou Driver

Uncategorized Apr 14, 2021

If you have endometriosis, chronic thrush or metabolic issues give this one a listen!

Lou has been in our WinAtLife program for about 18 months now. She is 45 years old, works full-time, and has two kids and her partner also has two kids.

Lou has suffered for a long time with endometriosis. Prior to joining the program she had 5 surgeries as well as an ablation which of course did not fix her issues. Once she started nourishing her body with pro-metabolic food, eating more and lowering stress so many of her issues improved!

In this podcast episode, we chat about:

Lou’s health history with endometriosis

How she is no longer suffering from endometriosis symptoms

What Lou used to eat prior to pro-metabolic eating (she always thought she was eating so healthy and eating enough)

What she eats now and how many calories she eats daily

How Lou has finally got rid of her chronic thrush

Why the process isn’t linear but how it continues to improve with...

#42: Falling pregnant at 40 with Emma Sgourakis

Uncategorized Mar 29, 2021

I’ve never really had a burning desire to have children either has Craig.

With everything happening in the world this last year, I just started to think what more there was to life. I imagined making another human with Craig and this is gonna sound cheesy but I love him so much .

At first, Craig wanted to keep this to just us. I’m a bit of an over sharer and I’m very transparent but this was something we initially decided to just keep to ourselves. After we went to the fertility specialist late last year, I asked his permission to share more about this, so with his blessing, I’ve been opening up more about our journey.

With all of this going on and me opening up more to everyone about this, I decided to sit down with Emma Sgourakis - The Nutrition Coach, friend and business partner to chat about pregnancy preparation/pregnancy and mainstream advice vs a pro-metabolic approach.

We discuss:

What you can do for your body when trying to have a...

#41: What it takes to transform your body in a healthy and sustainable way with Amy Bowe & Craig McDonald

Uncategorized Mar 24, 2021

A few weeks ago Craig and I caught up with Amy Bowe to talk about what it actually takes to transform your body in a healthy and sustainable way. Amy has been coaching for 12 years. She also has a dietetics degree, which she actually says was more clinical than her approach to food today. We both love Amy!

She is actually located in Vancouver but is from Australia. She was an Olympic lifter, has an amazing physique, and is an awesome person. Today, she also helps women get stronger, fuel their metabolism, and break-free from restrictive diets (similar to what we do!).

We all decided this was a good opportunity to sit down and talk about women’s expectations, what they want to achieve versus what it actually takes, and roadblocks that come up, as well as how you can try to close those gaps.

We chat about:

Diet culture

The type of training that will support your metabolism and build muscle and why this is important when it comes to a healthy and sustainable body...

#40: Cancel culture with Kate Deering

Uncategorized Mar 20, 2021

Kate’s been getting a little hate on some of her posts lately. And I get it too!

There are always going to be people that disagree with you and that's ok but sometimes, when something challenges a person’s belief system, people can get a bit nasty… But we know that this is often not the entire story each and every time, so we decided to have a chat about this whole ‘cancel culture.’

When it comes down to it, we are all just doing our best with the information we currently have. Kate and I dive deeper into this whole topic:

We talk about:

Realising that there isn’t ONE truth out there and that there are many different perspectives

A lot of different avenues can make you a healthier human being so blocking one perspective from your circle may not be the best idea

Different mindsets, such as being tired, hungry, or even drunk, can play a role in people’s reactions

You don’t have to respect another’s opinion but...

Uncategorized Mar 09, 2021

Last week I caught up with Kate Deering, Matt Blackburn, Danny Roddy and Georgi Dinkov to chat about vitamin D supplementation.

In this podcast we will address both sides of the supplemental Vitamin D debate.

A few notes for the listening audience.

Vitamin D and its metabolites have many names, through out this interview it is good to know which ones are being discussed.

Cholecalciferol/ supplemental D3 is obtained by food, supplement and produced by body via sunlight

Ergocalciferol is D2, not produced in the human body, but is created by exposing certain plant-derived materials to ultraviolet light.

Calcitriol/ ""activated"" D / 1,25D

In this podcast we discuss

What is vitamin D?

The rat poison -Cholecalciferol connection. Should we be worried?
