Up until the age of 34, I had tried all the quick-fix diets. From shake diets to high protein to every protocol of fasting. I cut sugar, carbs and dairy. I was so anti-sugar that I cut fruit from my diet. I also did so much cardio - I remember at one stage I did RPM and pump class every single day, 6 days a week. I would lose weight and get under 62kgs (that was my magic number) and then I would put it back on again. My period was painful and irregular, I had polyps removed and I even had a miscarriage. I rarely slept through the night, I was so tired I would fall asleep at my desk, I had the craziest sugar cravings and I had a really bad binge eating problem. I would be really 'good' for a few weeks and stick to whatever diet I was on at the time, then I would have epic binges! I felt consumed by food. I was either dieting or I was binge eating. Every 3-6 months I would start a new diet thinking "this would be the one that I could stick to and get lasting results". | After I got divorced and was drowning my sorrows in booze, drugs and unsavoury men, I started seeing a therapist. We would always talk about nutrition as I was always looking for the next 'diet' to try and she introduced me to the work of Emma Sgourakis (The Nutrition Coach) and Ray Peat. Around the same time, I met Craig who taught me how to strength train and focus on getting stronger rather than killing myself with cardio. What I learnt transformed my body and life. So much so, I left my job in mining and Craig and I opened NuStrength - our strength training facility in Brisbane. We then went on to develop the WinAtLife program, a program designed to educate and empower women to build bodies they love whilst freeing them from restrictive diets and cardio forever.
